From one shocking revelation to another in its intense finale week, ABS-CBN’s primetime hit series “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” ("Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon") finally concluded its gripping four-month run on Philippine television last Friday (October 10) by dominating its timeslot with an audience share of 59% in combined urban and rural homes.
TV audience measurement data from multinational market research group Kantar Media showed that “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” registered a national TV rating of 27.3%, or 13 points higher than its rival program “Hiram Na Alaala” (14%).
The series, which landed on the fourth spot of the top ten most watched programs in the country on the said date, also ruled social media as it trended worldwide on micro-blogging site Twitter.
“Tomorrow Belongs to Me” tells the story of Rose, an heir to one of the country’s biggest chocolate manufacturers, accused of murdering her own father. As she faces legal charges, Rose will find refuge in her lawyer Emmanuelle, who bears an apparent physical resemblance to her. One fateful night, the two get involved in a car accident and Rose wakes up in a hospital bed surrounded by Emmanuelle’s family, who believe she is Emmanuelle.
Assuming her lawyer’s identity, Rose sets out to regain the company that was taken from her and seeks justice for her murdered father. But above else, she also vows to take revenge on one person who betrayed her trust the most --- the love of her life, Patrick.
Even before it started airing in June, “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” already created a buzz among viewers not only because of its compelling story, but because it gathered some of Philippine TV’s biggest stars that include sought after character actors Paolo Avelino and Maricar Reyes, and highly-acclaimed veteran actor Albert Martinez. The series also marked the return to soap operas of this generation's movie queen, Bea Alonzo, who played dual roles as Rose and Emmanuelle.
International viewers will soon experience the intensity of “Tomorrow Belongs to Me” as the program is currently being distributed worldwide by ABS-CBN International Distribution.
