FILIPINA ACTRESS LIZA SOBERANO GETS ‘HERO’S WELCOME’ FROM PINOY COMIC BOOK FANS AT TOYCON 2017

Fans gave actress Liza Soberano a ‘hero’s welcome’ fit for her upcoming portrayal on the big screen as the iconic Filipino superhero Darna when she graced the recently held ToyCon 2017 at the SMX Convention Center in Manila, Philippines. Liza, who topbilled hit international series “Forevermore” and “Dolce Amore,” opened the event alongside international stars such as Stefan Kapicic “Deadpool,” Lindsey McKeon “Supernatural,” Karen Fukuhara “Suicide Squad,” Charlie Bewley “Twilight,” and Kevin Mcnally “Pirates of the Carribean.” “I’m very happy to be with people who keep our comic industry alive because this is Darna really started,” said Liza. “Darna” is one of the most celebrated superheroes in Pinoy pop culture. The character originated the comic book creation of graphic novelist Mars Ravelo in the 1950s. Since then, Darna paved its way to both the big and small screens with generations of popular actresses portraying the much coveted role. This year, after much speculation, ABS-CBN’s film production arm Star Cinema finally confirmed that Liza is next in line to play the Pinay super heroine. “I feel really honored to be able to don the iconic costume and to be able to embody what she represents,” said Liza in an interview with ABS-CBN News. Liza is one of the most sought after actresses in Philippine showbiz today. The 19-year-old Filipino-American stunner first learned how to speak Tagalog when she moved to Manila at age ten and then accepted bit roles on television. It was in 2014 when she got her big break in showbiz when she topbilled the hit romantic comedy soap “Forevermore” opposite actor Enrique Gil. Her on-screen chemistry with Gil was very well received by fans that they were given two movie projects and another television soap titled “Dolce Amore,” which is one of the most top-rating primetime series on PH TV in 2016. Their latest movie “My Ex and Whys,” meanwhile, also did very well in the box office and grossed P341 million worldwide. Liza is not only a TV and movie star she is also a certified style star. Just recently, Liza was featured in Vogue as a ‘style star to watch’ the popular fashion magazine commended her various looks and styles. Watch out for Liza as she finally takes flight as the newest Darna in the movie to be directed by Erik Matti under the production of Star Cinema.
